Elementarteilchenphysik / Elementary Particle Physics

Vorlesungsbeschreibung

The course, taught in English, provides an introduction to Elementary Particle Physics. The emphasis is placed on experimental aspects, complemented by phenomenological and theoretical considerations. Following a chronological introduction, the development of the Standard Model of particles and interactions is presented. The main topics covered include:

  • Quarks and leptons
  • Interactions and fields
  • Invariance principles and conservation laws
  • Quarks in hadrons
  • Lepton and quark scattering
  • Quark interactions and quantum chromodynamics (QCD)
  • Weak interactions
  • Electroweak interactions and the Standard Model
  • Physics beyond the Standard Model

Exercise sessions complement the lectures.
