Course description

This specialist course combines biology, chemistry, geology and astrophysics to provide an overview of the multi-disciplinary field of the origins and evolution of life on Earth.

In a second part, the course examines the nature of planets orbiting stars other than our sun (exoplanets) and describes current techniques used to detect and characterise their atmospheres.

In a third part, the course explores ongoing efforts, both in Bern and elsewhere, to search for signs of life within and beyond our Solar System.
