Programs for Schools and High Schools

Students and teachers can gain insights into the world of physics and astronomy through a range of events. The programs include information days, workshops, and hands-on research activities.

National Future Day (Nationaler Zukunftstag)

On National Future Day, students in grades 5 to 7 gain insights into various fields of study and career paths. The Department of Physics and Astronomy contributes with activities that make science tangible and spark curiosity for scientific topics.

STEM Day (MINT-Tag)

The STEM Day offers high school students aged 17 and above the opportunity to explore scientific degree programs and gain initial insights into research, academic studies, and career prospects.

International Masterclass - Elementary Particle Physics

Are you a high school student aged 16 to 19 with an interest in particle physics? The International Masterclasses, organised by the International Particle Physics Outreach Group (IPPOG), offer a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world of particle physics. Over the course of a day, participants combine theoretical learning with hands-on analysis of real particle physics data and discover how researchers investigate the fundamental building blocks of matter. The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Bern traditionally hosts a one-day International Masterclass in February or March. Further information can be found here.
