Mathematical Methods in Physics I

Lecture Description

This lecture constitutes the first part of a three-part course on the mathematical methods required in theoretical physics, as well as in Physics I and Physics II. The main emphasis is placed on methods that arise in classical mechanics and electrodynamics.

The course Mathematical Methods in Physics I (MMPI) covers the following topics: elementary vector calculus, vector functions, Taylor expansion, complex numbers, integration, simple ordinary differential equations, functions of several variables, scalar fields, vector fields, line integrals, double integrals, surface integrals, volume integrals, and divergence.

Problem sets are distributed weekly and constitute an essential component of the course.
