Course Description
Students are introduced to a variety of astronomical objects and phenomena and are provided with an overall overview of modern astronomy, ranging from the motions of celestial bodies in the sky to planets and stars. The emphasis is on a qualitative description of key principles and relationships, as well as on conveying the modern astronomical worldview. The course is part of the module “Foundations of Astronomy I” and serves as preparation for the lecture "Astronomy II“, in which the physical and mathematical aspects are explored in greater depth.
Target audience: The course is intended for Bachelor’s students in Physics with a specialization in Astronomy, students from other scientific disciplines, and students enrolled in teacher education programmes.
