Practical Course I

Course Information

The practical course takes place on site in groups of two students. Registration is mandatory both via the KSL and additionally via the registration list on ILIAS (please note the deadline). The course has a maximum capacity of 60 participants. If more than 60 students register, places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. All remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list. Should registered participants withdraw at the beginning of the semester, students on the waiting list will be informed and may still be able to complete the practical course during the same semester.

Time Slots: Monday early (A), Monday late (B), Thursday early (C), Thursday late (D), Friday early (E). Time schedule A, C early: 12:30–15:45; time schedule B, D late: 16:00–19:15; time schedule E: 13:30–16:45

You must indicate both a first and a second preference.

Introductory meeting and group allocation (attendance is compulsory): The date and room will be announced.

Course materials: The course lecture notes will be provided online.

Prerequisites: Physics I and the associated Physics I exercises.

Frequency: Offered annually.

  • Statistics and error analysis
  • Collision of two steel spheres
  • Damped and driven oscillations
  • Coupled pendulums
  • Transverse oscillations of a string
  • Gyroscope experiments
  • Molar heat capacity
  • Wind tunnel experiments
  • Lenses and prisms
  • Specific electron charge e/m.
